THE near DEATH AND RE BIRTH

HUNTER 37 CUTTER
Electrics
What can you say about 30 year old electrics?? I expected to rebuild the whole thing anyway. The good thing was that the cabin lights run was in good shape. It is placed between the liner and the house roof and imposible to repair or fish out. This looked like it is going to be a complete gut job.
I decided to design my own panel. After looking at many panels I came up with what I wanted. I Checked with two local sign makers in town ( I like to patronize the local businesses ) but after many weeks of delays, they could not come up with anything remotelly looking like what I wanted.
I searched the internet and found a company in S.C. that made panels with a laser machine. After converting my jpg to a pdf and then to a machine file, I received the panels in 3 days, perfect lettering and borders and for under 50 box. I liked them so much I decided to add two more sub panels in order to add what I wanted. An accessory panel and a solar panel.

I got the blank panels in and attached the old panel on top with tape to use it as a template for all the holes to be drilled. Each breaker has 4 holes. 2 for screws, one for the breaker lever and one for the LED.  I purchased all the labels from Blue Seas. I did not want to engrave the breaker function as things change and in the future it is much easier to change a 1.00 label that to make a new panel

I installed the new battery charger today. My present one started to make noises. It still charged the batteries but the cooling fan was noisy sometimes. Other times, you would not know it was on. Since it came with the boat I did not know it's age although it looks new.. I researched the brand and other sailors seem to like it so I decided to upgrade to a newer model. A Promariner ProTech 1240 I plus. This model has a fully automatic four stage charger, etc, etc.
It is however quite a bit
larger and had to make
room on the bulkhead for it.
It is quiet and you don't even
know its on except for the
LED light. It will charge 3
batteries at the same time.
Pricey but hope it does well..
