THE near DEATH AND RE BIRTH
OF A
1979 HUNTER 37 CHERUBINI CUTTER
Well, the water system was old, cruddy looking and ready to let go. I removed all the many hoses, clear, ribbed, black and who knows what other kind of hose. Flushed both of the water tanks and added 1 cup of beach into each.
I replaced the filler hoses and vent hoses. Used all new PEX pipe for all the plumbing except for the tank switching valve. I had to use clamps and a piece of clear hose because of the fittings.
Installed a new kitchen sink faucet, head faucet, shower valve, new water heater with storage tank and new cockpit shower. Installed a new water pump and all new PEX pipes.
I opted to use the white plastic faucets for the shower and sink as the old ones were pot metal and corroded. I feel these plastic ones look better and will not rust .
The new shower valve fitted in the same place as the original and matches the sink valve. I did find a new hand held shower with a water saver button on the handle. A must while taking showers with a 10 gallon water heater. I had to order a 10 ft hose as the original one was really not long enough to hand the shower handle.
The heart of the system. A new on demand water pump. The shut off on the supply line is to isolate the water pump and water tanks from the dock water system. When using the dock water hose, I can shut off the pump and water tanks. I still have dock water on the rest of the boat .
New FORCE 10 water heater along with an accumulator to minimize cycling on the water pump. It can heat water from shore power or while the engine is been used.
Galley sink with new supply lines installed
Cockpit shower is a welcomed addition. Hot water and cold water available. The other access box contains the shore water hookup with a one way valve.
